The spotted wolffish is found in the North Atlantic from Svalbard to the British Isles. It lives at depths of 20 meters and more above the hard bottom. Its French name, Loup de mer, which means sea wolf in the prefix, often leads to confusion with European sea bass, which, however, offers better meat.
Its tender, fatter meat is perfect for frying or steaming.
