New Zealand clams have a green shell with a large piece of coral or cream-coloured flesh. The flesh of mussels naturally varies in colour, with coral indicating a female and lighter cream indicating a male. They are a sought-after speciality and delicacy due to their delicious taste.
Low in fat and calories, they are also an excellent source of selenium, iron, calcium, magnesium and vitamin B12. One serving (5-6 mussels) will cover 100% of your daily iodine and selenium intake, 35% of your daily protein intake, 45% of your daily iron intake and a high amount of vitamin B12.
